1968  This is another incredible find for the auction!  This board belonged to Jack Shipley, manager of the Hobie shop in Honolulu and the dealer for Phil Honolulu's.  When the short board revolution hit, Jack took his Phil Edwards longboard balsa and tore the glass off and took the blank back to Phil to re-shape into the current rage short board!  The result was a "pocket rocket"", 8'2"" with black high performance fin, that Jack rode personally through the adaptation to the short board.  Probably the only Phil Honolulu transition balsa in existence!  Pre-auction estimate $5000-$7,500

#61 Makaha International Surfing Championships Official Banners Lot of 3
1950's-70's These are the "official"" street banners used each year in both Waikiki and Makaha, welcoming everyone to the Makaha International event. These banners have been stashed away for the past thirty-five years and are an incredible find! Three separate banners, 20', 30' and 40'! Used to straddle the road way in both Waikiki and at Makaha when the event was one. Made of ultra heavy duty canvas with ropes for securing. Note how the date was changed each year for re-use of the banners. Proceeds from the sale of these three items will go directly to the Waikiki Surf Club. Pre-auction estimate $3000-$4000.

#63 (10r) Joe Quigg Foam Paddleboard 10' 10"
1960 This is a very interesting piece. In the early 60's, Joe Quigg made approximately 20 surfboard class paddleboards. They had to be under 11' and have a surfboard fin. This board is just over 10'10" and features a balsa stringer, with Foss foam blank having been sealed and glassed with volan cloth. Pale blue pinlines, same color as the logo and high density poured foam fin. full volume, flat deck rocker, designed for paddling. Pre-auction estimate: $1500-$3,000

#64 6) 1930's Hollowed Solid Redwood Racing Paddleboard 14' 6"
This is a very interesting racing paddleboard from the 1930's. Purchased at a police auction by Harvey Toda who used the board for racing before passing it on to his son. In all original, totally unrestored condition, this board is extremely long and narrow and made from a solid slab of redwood, with the body hollowed out and decking applied to cut down weight, has the original brass drain plug. #65 9.0) Hollow Hawaiian Waikiki Paddle Board 12'
1930's Spruce and mahogany hollow board built in the late 30's by the craftsmen at the "Funai Boatbuilders"". These were the local Japanese craftsment who built the akule, ahi and aku sampans of the fishing fleet before World War II. They would moonlight their talents for extra money and build surfboards for the beachboys in Waikiki. This particular board was owned by old time Waikiki Beach Boy, Joseph ""Scooter Boy"" Kaouiki. ""Scooterboy"" was an icon in Waikiki, as he was regularly in the water with is poi dog, Sandy who he taught to surf with him. ""Scooterboy"" was one of the few surfers that could surf these large skegless paddle boards doing radical maneuvers and turn in the surf off Waikiki. Oil sealed, all screw s covered with wood plugs, original brass/chrome handle on tail. Pre-auction estimate: $5,000-$7,000

1970 This was the design that Dick Brewer developed with test pilot Reno Abellira during the height of the "side-slipping"" era. Unique ahead of it's time flipped up nose, the model was dubbed the ""Disk"". Low profile glass on fin, tint glass job, combination resin/spray design to hide the extra piece of foam glued on the tip of the nose to obtain the flip-tip. Inter-Island classic logo with shaped by Dick Brewer sticker/scallop. Very rare example of early short board creative design. $2000-$3000

Without a doubt, this is one of the most unique and beautiful boards in the auction. Carved from a foam blank, the piece known as "A touch of the Islands"", is the masterpiece of New Zealand artist, Hoang Pham, with the inspiration and teachings from legendary Maori surfers Aaron Jeropa and Lemisio Daniel Filipo. Created by exchanging wood chisels for razor blades, they have taken traditional Polynesian wood carving techniques to a new level. Painstakingly hand painted, the patterns feature Mother of Pearl from New Zealand, flowers from the South Pacific and Polynesian motifs. Pre-auction estimate: $2,000-$5,000

1974 This is an incredible piece of history. From the late Bunker Spreckles, comes his personal fish, made of wiliwili wood (equivilant of Hawaiian balsa). Shaped by the legendary Bob "Wolfman"" Stay of Country Surfboards. Bunker took this board to Jeffreys Bay and said that it was one of his favorite boards of his extensive quiver. 1973 This is one of David Nuuhiwa's fantastic Dyno Fish's!. After placing runner-up in the 1972 World Contest on a Fish, David further refined the fish design and teamed up with Dyno to produce his version of this unique shape. Board number #96, this is one of the best and cleanest versions of the ""Hydro"" known to exist. Pintail outline on bottom with steped back into small square tail with wood tailblock, 3/4"" redwood stringer, mahagony fin, blue resin deck panels with black pinlines. 1940's This is a solid redwood that has been hollowed out and plywood deck applied, to bring the weight down to a respectable 65 lbs.. Brass drain plug, no fin built to surf Waikiki and also act as a paddleboard. Designed and constructed by Albert E. "Toots"" Minville, the man who created the Molokai to Oahu canoe race in 1952.

#96 (7) Balsa with Redwood & Pine Nose & Tail block 10'8"
1951 Extremely rare early 50's transitional board from the "Hot Curl"" to a more modern board. Balsa is from WW II Navy surplus twelve man life rafts, which could be bought for $20.00 in the 50's. A good one could yield up to three blanks, but they did require extensive shorter glueups. This gives this board a unique look. The detail is in the wooden keel fin, the nicely glued up nose and tail blocks and overall shape. Pre-auction estimate: $5,000-$7,000.

1931 This board was made by carpenter Henry Mokiao of Waimanalo in the early 30's and surfed in Waikiki throughout the 30's and into the 40's. It is one of the first glued up boards made with redwood strips and has a unique grid pattern on the deck for grip. Some termite damage in tail, otherwise all original condition. Estimate $2000-$5000
