ALOHA & WELCOME
Welcome once again to the biennial QUIKSILVEREDITION
Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction. As usual, it is my pleasure
to put together what have become not only a fun event, but also
one that has set the bar for all other surf auctions. With QUIKSILVEREDITION
back again, we look forward to this being another well-attended,
record-setting, unique auction, and as it has come to be recognized,
THE auction to attend!
Four years ago we held the inaugural
event and I swore I would never do another! But, everyone had fun,
we raised a bunch of money for the Junior Lifeguard program, and
a wealth of collectables was uncovered. After a year passed, I’d
forgotten how much work it was and how much time it took and with
everyone’s encouragement, I decided it would be worth doing
a second.
2003 was better than the first. We
did nearly a Quarter-of-a-Million-Dollars in sales and raised over
$20,000 for the Hawaii Life Guard Association, Junior Guard Program.
It was a contributing factor to the increased growth of interest
in the summer Junior Guard program and as such I am happy to announce
to for the third consecutive event, the Hawaii Life Guard Association
will once again be the recipient of funds raised by this years auction.
So, once again, not only will you have another great time, but it
is for a good cause as well.
With a good time had by all over
the past two auctions, why change a winning formula? With that in
mind, for those you who will be able to attend in person, the pre-auction
party at Dukes Restaurant on the beach in Waikiki will once again
be THE get-together!
Great food, drinks and service legendary
to Dukes, along with the support of QUIKSILVEREDITION, combined
with the presence of legends and luminaries alike, should make for
a good time once again to be had by all.
A new added attraction will be the artist’s reception to be
held on the Thursday before the auction at the “Green Room
Gallery” inside Tropical Blends Surfboards. Hosted by 80’s
Pipeline charger, SURFER Magazine cover featured surfer and artist-in-his-own
right, Jonathan Damm, it will be a chance to view various surf art
including those to be offered in the main auction.
Once again the auction will be held
in conjunction with the “Hawaii All Collectors Show 2005”,
which will be going on adjacent to the auction site and all registered
bidders will receive free admittance to the show. This is an annual
gathering of over 200 vendors featuring every kind of collectable
imaginable. They have surf items, Hawaiiana, toys, furniture-what
ever you may be looking for. A great way for wives, girl friends
and associates to have even more to look at and do!
As has been the case in the past,
the “Live Auction” will feature a mix of surfboards,
surf collectibles, art, Hawaiiana and other associated items. From
the low priced “kitschy” to the best of the hard to
find. The “Silent Auction” will feature lower-priced
items, such as movie posters, magazines, Hawaiian knick-knacks and
unique surf items amongst other things. We try really hard to offer
items with “A Touch of Hawaii”, so that you can find
something with an island influence.
Being a “surf” auction,
surfboards are my true love and reflected by the attendees in their
support for the boards on offer. For those of you have previously
attended you will recognize I am a believer in the 3R’s. That
is, that every board is either REPAIRED, REFURBISHED, or RESTORED.
I truly believe you should either be able to take these out and
ride them or display them with pride. As such, we spend a lot of
time and go to great lengths to insure each board is presentable
and are in as original and immaculate condition as possible.
Following on from 2001 and 2003,
in addition to an excellent collection of items, some of surfing’s
biggest legends will once again be in attendance at the auction,
offering up and personalizing some of their own most valuable pieces.
We’re happy to report that 60’s big wave legends, such
as Fred Hemmings, Ricky Grigg and Greg Noll will be present once
again. World-class shapers such as Joe Quigg, Dick Brewer and Ben
Aipa will join us as well, along with present day masters such as
Pat Rawson, Mike Casey and Jeff Bushman. Stars of the short board
revolution such as Gerry Lopez, Barry Kanaiaupuni, and Rory Russell
will be in attendance, along with some long lost surprise guests.
During the “Silent Auction”
between 2:00pm and 4:30pm we will have on hand in person the likes
of Sandy Hall signing copies of “Duke-A Great Hawaiian”,
Tim De La Vega, with his “200 Years of Surfing Literature
”, Mike Doyle signing copies of his re-issued, limited editions”
Morning Glass” and a number of other authors available for
personal presentations.
This year the display will only be
for ONE DAY ONLY. Open on Saturday July 23, 2005 from 11:00am. The
“Silent Auction” will take place for two and half hours
from 2:00pm until 4:30pm. The “Main Auction” will follow
immediately thereafter beginning at 5:00pm so that we can finish
at approximately 8:00pm. Meals and drinks will be provided to all
registered bidders.
So, it is with much anticipation
that we invite you to join us for the third biennial QUIKSILVEREDITION
Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction. The only auction of its kind!
Come ride some summer South Swells, share a great gathering of surf
legends, make some new friends, and bid on a bit of surfing history
and memorabilia. Once again, we welcome you to the auction, whether
you are a repeat attendee, a first time collector or just a curious
visitor. Whatever the reason for coming, enjoy and above all have
fun!
Aloha,
