Outrigger Waikiki Beach Patrol Wood "Signature" Board 5'10" Circa late1940's/early 50's(10)
This is truly an amazing find! Made of Monkey Pod, this Outrigger Waikiki Beach Patrol board features the names of all the famous beach boys of the era! World Champion wrestler Lou Thesz visited Waikiki beach and befriended Sammy "Steamboat" Jr., offering to teach Steamboat to wrestle if he would in turn teach him to surf. Upon his departure, Sammy presented this board to Thesz, as a memento of his stay. Featuring some wear and tear on the bottom, indicating it was ridden, it features the Outrigger Canoe Club motif, along with 11 names including the likes of: Duke Kahanamoku, "Steamboat", "Turkey Love", "Panama Dave"and all the other beach Patrol members of the period.An incredible,unique, one of kind, special wooden board!
