The 2007 QuikSilverEdition Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction has been completed and was an incredible success. New levels for board valuations and record breaking sales were realized. The attendance on site was nearly double from the last auction and thousands of people followed the auction live on line. The pre-auction party at Duke's Restaurant in Waikiki was once again a hit and the attendance by some of surfing's elite, made for a stellar evening. Speaking of those who showed, the list was a who's-who of surfing legends, including '60's stars such as: Greg Noll, Bing Copeland, Tom Morey, Henry Preece, Joe Quigg, Dick Brewer, Ben Aipa, Ricky Grigg, Fred Hemmings, Joey Cabell and Jock Sutherland, among others were all in attendance. The 70's were well represented with the likes of: Pipeline Master - Gerry Lopez, Terry Fitzgerald-the sultan of speed, master shaper - Bill Barnfield, World Champion - Mark Richards, Mark Liddell and the Pipeline Prince- Rory Russell. For all the pre-registered bidders, a great time was had by all and they were joined by dozens of other bidders who arrived the day of the auction and took in as well the All Collector Show 2007, which was run in conjunction with the auction.
We'd like to thank QuikSilverEdition for their support. Thanks also to John Severson who's SURFER Magazine cover shot of Gerry Lopez at Ala Moana was the inspiration for the artwork graphic, which was created by Bruce "Buzz" Hansen. The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation, scholarship fund, is this years recipient of funds raised from the auction, with monies ear-marked for the surfing scholarships. Mahalo to everyone else who helped out to make this the best ever event and we look forward to having everyone join us for further future promotions.
