James Arness Collection - Fred Hemmings Oil Painting Circa Mid-1960's
This is one of five items from the James Arness Colection. This particular piece hung in Jim's dressing room at the CBS studio while he was filming "Gunsmoke". Because he liked Makaha so much, photographer, Dr. Don James had given Arness the original negative from this famous shot of Fred Hemmings shooting the Makaha "Bowl". Arness then had his studio artist paint this fantastic, huge 5' X 9' plywood backed rendition. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, the artist ruined the negative while he was painting the piece and Jim always felt bad about never being able to return the slide. The picture then hung in his Hollister Ranch house after leaving "Gunsmoke". Superb original condition oil painting, shown here with Fred Hemmings himself!.
